Royal Oak

An Introduction to the Royal Oak

The Royal Oak building still features a handsome tiled exterior. It goes back to at least 1872 and used to be two storeys but was bombed in the second World War.

Ang Wilko remembers: “My dad made that place a little goldmine, fantastic weekends with live singers and fresh seafood for all to enjoy, also no trouble it was all laughter and happiness in 2000.

It closed in 2011 and in May 2017 a planning application was submitted to demolish the building and replace it with nine flats.
