Social Spaces

Royal Docks in the 1950s (Daily Mail)

When the docks and factories were the main source of employment in this area, pubs were the community's social hubs.

Additionally, the Tate Institute/Tate and Lyle (London) Sports and Social Club providing many sports, clubs and activities for the well-being of the residents of North Woolwich and Silvertown.

Below is a video from the Tate Lives Mobile Memory Caravan which toured North Woolwich and Silvertown in 2017. The caravan aimed to help long time residents contribute memories and share them with new arrivals to make them aware of the hidden heritage under their feet.
